News: Ebola: 3 more people quarantined in Port Harcourt

The Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Sampson Parker says the contact tracing team has identified 178 persons that had contact with the late Dr. Iyke Enemoah.
The commissioner stated this during his daily media briefing to keep the public abreast with efforts of stakeholders to tackle the Ebola scourge in Port Harcourt, South South Nigeria.
According to him, 50 out of this number have high risk exposure, stating that three persons have been moved to the Isolation centre in Eduoha, while late Dr. Enemoah’s wife, who was earlier moved to Lagos is stable and responding to treatment.
Dr. Parker, who said the UPTH Mortuary, Samstel Clinic, Mandate Hotel, Green Heart Hospital and Dr. Iyke Enemoah’s residence have all be decontaminated, said people should not shy away from these places because they were now safe as a result of the decontamination.
He frowned at the stigmatization of people who have contracted the virus, stressing that “all the people who presented themselves early for treatment in Lagos have all survived”.
Parker warned church leaders and other religious organizations to desist from turning their back yards to hospital wards where they lay hands on people for spiritual healing, insisting that all febrile illnesses must be reported for investigation and prompt intervention.
He said the burial of all corpses which were deposited at the UPTH morgue at the same period with the late Enemoah must be carried out under the supervision of the State Ministry of Health, while movement of corpses around the state must be done with clearance from the Ministry.

A Mississippi mother has launched an online campaign for justice after her little girl was allegedly severely beaten in a vicious playground attack last week.
Disturbing images posted to the 'Justice for AvaLynn' Facebook page by mother Lacey Harris reveal the kindergarten student's bruising injuries, which her school claims happened when the five-year-old fell over.
Harris refutes the official explanation from Arlington Elementary School and says that she wants a police investigation because her child's injuries are simply too severe to have been caused by a fall.
According to Harris, her daughter AvaLynn was kicked until she fell off the slide in the playground during her first week at Arlington Elementary in Mississippi.
The Pascagoula School District said that nothing violent happened to the little girl and she merely fell to the ground whie outside playing.
A post on the 'Justice for AvaLynn' Facebook page gives Harris' alleged account of how her daughter was left with such severe black eyes and swollen features.

Wounded: AvaLynn and mother Lacey Harris pose for a picture posted over the weekend that show the five-year-old's injuries are improving

'AvaLynn informed Lacey that she was assaulted by another student: that she was kicked repeatedly in the face until she fell off of the slide on the school's playground. The school informed Lacey were no teachers present when the incident occurred, and because of that, no one could prove whether or not another student had harmed Ava,' the post reads.
'The school basically claims that Ava injured herself, as all the photos depicting her injuries will debunk. The local PD claims that there has been no criminal act, which the injury photos also disprove.'
Harris has retained the services of a lawyer, who has insisted she make no comment to the press while they press for a police investigation.
She has also opened a gofundme page that has raised in excess of $5,000 to help with AvaLynn's treatment.
'There is a need for repeat CT scans, specialist visits to an ENT, ophthalmologist and quite possible orthopedics for her little face,' Harris wrote.
The Pascagoula School District spoke to gulflive.com about the incident to say: 'A student was injured while playing on the playground at Arlington Elementary School Tuesday afternoon. School officials responded to the situation.
'The parent was contacted and the student received medical treatment. No other children were involved in the incident. The Pascagoula School District remains committed to the safety of all its students.'
Police have said they will not open a file because they do not believe any criminal activity occurred.

This, he said would enable them to detect the health status of every newly admitted corps members and to prevent the spread of the disease among the corps members during their stay in the camps.
Olawumi made this known during the official flag-off the NYSC/State Governments Collaboration on Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise held in Akure, the Ondo State Capital.

Olawumi charged all Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of cleanliness in view of the dreaded Ebola Virus.
Johnson noted that all relevant government agencies should work together to curtail the spread of the disease that is currently ravaging West African countries.

Photos: Meet the oldest human to have ever lived, clocks 127 today!

A Mexican woman has become the oldest human to have ever lived after reaching the grand old age of 127 - but she lost her birth certificate four decades ago, it was claimed today.
Leandra Becerra Lumbreras was said to have been born on August 31, 1887 - the year Queen Victoria celebrated her Golden Jubilee.
She was 27 when the Second World War broke out, already a pensioner at 66 when Queen Elizabeth II ascended the British throne and 82 when man first set foot on the moon.
And the birthday girl's secret to a long life is eating well, sleeping for days on end and never getting married, according to her family.
Miss Lumbreras reportedly fought in the 1910-1917 Mexican Revolution as a leader of the 'Adelitas' - women who went with their husbands to the battle front.
The former seamstress, from the western Mexican city of Zapopan, has already buried her five children and several of her 20 grandchildren - the last died in 2013 aged 90.
She also has 73 great-grandchildren and 55 great-great-grandchildren. Mexican authorities are now trying to provide a new birth certificate after she lost the original 40 years ago while moving house.
Grandaughter Miriam Alvear, 43, told Mexico's El Horizonte newspaper that although she is now deaf and suffering from cataracts, Ms Lumbreras still often entertains her family with stories from a time long confined to history books.
They include having to flee their homes and hide in caves to escape being forcibly recruited into the Mexican army.
According to her family, she has already told them what she wants for her birthday party today - beans with tortillas, even though she isn't allowed solid food on medical advice.
Miss Lumbreras is 12 years older than Japan's Misao Okawa, currently the oldest documented living person in the world, according to Guinness World Records.

Photos: Who made it onto the Forbes list of the world's highest paid DJs?

It’s that time of year when we found out just how wealthy the wealthy are! This time, it’s the turn of the biggest DJs in music, as Forbes has just released the list of the richest disc jockeys in the world.
Let's start at the bottom and work our way to the top.....

10: Deadmau5 - $16m
He is the giant mouse man! Otherwise known as Joel Zimmerman, the Canadian DJ is famous for his different styles of house music and of course his image. This June he released his seventh album, which boasts an impressive 25 tracks. The DJ has also appeared in video games as his character and has a successful merchandise line.
Who has made it onto the Forbes list of the world\'s highest paid DJs?

9: Skrillex

With a total of six Grammy Awards under his belt, Skrillex made the right choice in pursuing a solo career back in 2007. His second album Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites became a commercial success and really put him on the radar. His latest album Recess was released this year to positive reviews. Skrillex isn’t just known for his electronic music, as he also contributed to the music in the hit animation film Wreck It Ralph!
Number 9: Skrillex

8. Kaskade - $17m

The two-time Grammy nominee, whose real name is Ryan Raddon, was voted America’s Best DJ in both 2011 and 2013 in the DJ Times poll. He has collaborated with fellow DJ Deadmau5 on his album Strobelite Seduction and has managed to balance a family life with his hectic touring schedule: he is married with three daughters.
8. Kaskade - $17m

7. Zedd - $21m

At the age of just 24, Zedd has already established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the DJ world. Starting out as a protégée of Skrillex, he has now exceeded him on Forbes' list. His most famous song to date is 'Clarity' which earned him a Grammy; he is also a talented producer and has worked with Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and The Black Eyed Peas.
7. Zedd - $21m

6. Afrojack - £22m

Afrojack has had a long-running DJ career but his debut album Forget the World was only released this year to much anticipation. He made the top 10 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs for three consecutive years and has had a multitude of successful hits. Most notably, he featured on Pitbull's number one single 'Give Me Everything'.
6. Afrojack - £22m

5. Steve Aoki - $23m

This is the first time that Steve Aoki has made the top five and he deserves it: he is considered to be one of the most hard-working DJs in the industry, performing around 250 shows a year. His tours are legendary for their energetic atmosphere, with crowd surfing, cake-throwing and spraying champagne bottles. He was also nominated for a Grammy for his album Wonderland.
5. Steve Aoki - $23m

3. Tiesto - £28m

There are two DJs who take the third place spot. Tiesto, who first started out in the early 2000s, used to perform six- hour solo sets in order to increase his popularity, and this was unheard of at the time. He was also the first DJ to hold a solo concert in a stadium. With five studio albums and a greatest hits LP under his belt, we don’t see him stopping anytime soon.

3. Tiesto - £28m

3. Avicii - $28m

The young DJ also shares the third spot, and what an impressive year he has had. The first single from his 2013 album True was 'Wake Me Up', which topped the charts in over 20 countries including Australia, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands and New Zealand. He has recently worked with Chris Martin from Coldplay and co-produced 'Lovers on the Sun' with David Guetta.

3. Avicii - $28m

2. David Guetta - $30m

Speaking of David Guetta, he takes second place on the list. The French DJ broke into the mainstream when he released his 2009 album One Love, which included 'When Love Takes Over', 'Gettin' Over You' and 'Sexy Bitch'. His 2011 follow-up album gave us some more dance classics and overall he has sold over six million albums and 15 million singles worldwide.

2. David Guetta - $30m

1. Calvin Harris - $66m

This is the second year in a row that Calvin Harris takes the top spot. The former green grocer has made a jump of $20 million on his earnings since last year. Some of his most famous hits include 'Acceptable in the 80s', 'The Girls', 'Bounce' and 'Feel So Close'. His contact book is also bursting at the seams as he has worked with many big names, from Rihanna to Kylie Minogue.

News: Ebola in mind, US colleges screen West African students

College students from West Africa may be subject to extra health checks when they arrive to study in the United States as administrators try to insulate campuses from the worst Ebola outbreak in history.
With the virus continuing to kill in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria, the expected arrival of thousands of students from those countries has U.S. authorities on alert but cautioning against alarm.
"I can see why there would be concern; there's no vaccine for it," said Fatima Nor, an 18-year-old freshman at the University at Buffalo, where about 25 students from Nigeria are enrolled for fall. But she said knowing that the virus is transmitted strictly through direct contact with bodily fluids of sick people, and not by sitting next to someone in class, should be enough to calm nerves.
"As long as everyone keeps their personal space, it should be OK," said Nor, of Buffalo.
U.S. universities count 9,728 active students from Nigeria, 204 from Liberia, 169 from Sierra Leone and 95 students from Guinea, according to the federal government.
The odds they could bring Ebola to campus seemed too small to worry Laura Washburn, a senior at Tufts University outside Boston.
"It's not like I'm not going to class because someone has been to Africa," she said. "I mean, it's hard to say how paranoid we should be about it, but I feel pretty safe at Tufts."
The roughly 30 Nigerian students expected at the University of Illinois will be pulled aside for a temperature check and private Ebola discussion when they arrive at the health center for mandatory immunization paperwork and tuberculosis screening, said Dr. Robert Palinkas, the center's director.
The plans have been reassuring to the handful of parents who have called wondering whether their child's placement with a West African roommate should give them reason to worry, he said.

News: Two life-long UAE friends lived together… died together

Two elderly Emirati men in the northern emirates have gone further than the famous saying “a friend in need is a friend indeed” when they died on the same day to make it “a friend in life is a friend in death”.

The sad story took place in Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah on Friday and sent waves of grief through residents who had always known the two as close friends.

The two had agreed to meet at a wedding in Ras Al Khaimah as they used to go together to almost every social event, but had certainly not realised they were on a rendezvous with death this time.

Obaid Khalfa Al Kaabi, a 60-year-old Emirati from Ajman, told his friend Salim Nayem Al Kaabi, 66, he would go ahead to the wedding in Ras Al Khaimah and wait for him there.

Obaid sat waiting for at least two hours, but there still was no word from Salim.

“Salim met with an accident on the way to the wedding and was rushed to hospital. Doctors tried to save his life but he died,” Emarat Al Youm daily said.

“Obaid was still waiting at the wedding when he was told that his friend had died in an accident.

“He could not stand the shock and collapsed at the wedding. Obaid was rushed to the hospital but his heart stopped and he died.”

News: 3 months to install CCTV cameras in all buildings, villas: Dubai Police

Security surveillance will have to be compulsorily installed in all Dubai buildings and villas, according to Dubai Police.

According to Dubai Police, owners of buildings – residential and offices; and villa compounds, will have three months to comply with this new rule.

The CCTV cameras and security systems to be installed have to be in accordance with specifications set by Dubai Police.

Major Arif Al Janahi, Director, Protection Systems Department, Dubai Police said: “Landlords of 25,000 buildings still have to install surveillance cameras and security system in their buildings.

“We have given them a grace period of three months which began on August 26.”

He added that fines will be imposed on those not complying.

Major Al Janahi stated that this action comes under Act No 10 of 2014 and amendments to provisions of Law No 24 of 2008 on service providers and security regulations.

He emphasised that several meetings have been held with owners and real estate companies where they were informed of all details with the explanation of all required specifications.

He said landlords can use one of 650 companies registered by Dubai Police to install the requirements.

Specifications

Explaining some of the specifications Major Al Janahi said the CCTV cameras, according to the law, should be stable, fixed and must have clear vision.

He added that they must be installed at all entrances to the facility where the picture of a person entering can be clearly seen.

Also, surveillance cameras are to be fixed at all emergency exits and that lead in and out of the facility.

Lobby areas and on sections leading to the elevators are also to be covered by camera.

Reception areas, entrances to health clubs, parking entrances and exits are also to be CCTVed – the latter requiring the number plates of cars to be clearly visible.

All cameras are to be able to have storage capacity of at least one month of footage.

UPDATE

News: Beauty queen who ran off with tiara refuses to hand it back until organisers apologise for calling her a 'thief'

A dethroned Burmese beauty queen has refused to return her $100,000 jewelled tiara until organisers of the pageant apologise for calling her 'a liar and a thief'.
May Myat Noe allegedly disappeared with the tiara after she was dethroned as the 2014 Miss Asia Pacific World winner for 'being rude'.
But at a press conference today the 18-year-old insisted she had done nothing wrong and denied accepting breast implants free of charge, as claimed by David Kim, the director of media for the South Korea-based pageant.
Mr Kim had said organisers wanted her to have breast enhancement surgery before they could get her a record deal.
He had said the teenager was stripped of her title because she was dishonest and unappreciative - and because she ran off with her bejewelled tiara.
Miss Noe however has said that she boarded a plane for Burma without realising she had been dethroned.
Mr Kim had said Miss Noe had been a disappointment from the outset.
May Myat Noe (right) winner of the 2014 Miss Asia Pacific World, walks with her mother San San Htwe for a press conference while carrying her crown that she allegedly ran away with

Following her victory, the organisers and sponsors wanted the 5ft 7in pageant winner to change her looks so she could become a singer.
Mr Kim said: 'We thought she should be more beautiful ... so as soon as she arrived we sent her to the hospital to operate on her breasts.'
Adding that the competition's sponsors paid £6,000 for her breast enhancement, Mr Kim said: 'It's our responsibility.
'If she has no good nose, then maybe, if she likes, we can operate on her nose. If it's breasts, then breasts.'
The pageant organisers had said they also paid for a 10-day trip for her and her mother to Seoul, South Korea, but that quickly turned into three months, incurring extra cost.
She 'lied' and 'never had respect for the main organisation, the national director, the manager, media or fans who made her the winner,' organisers said in a statement.
Miss Noe was given a flight back to Burmese capital Rangoon, but did not show up, with Malaysian news sites reporting that she got on an earlier plane.

The pageant organisers have been demanding she hand back the jewel-encrusted Swarovski tiara - worth between £60,000 and £120,000.
Mr Kim said: 'Everyone knows she is no longer the queen, but she thinks as long as she keeps this crown she's the winner. She's not.'
Her picture has been taken down off the competition's website and it says 'dethroned' next to her name.
Hla Nu Tun, who initially acted as her unofficial manager, has said Miss Noe and the organisers had disagreed over who should oversee her career. Miss Noe's mother wanted control but so did the organisers, she said.
Burma, which only recently emerged from a half-century military rule and self-imposed isolation, started sending contestants to international beauty pageants for the first time in decades in 2012.
British model Amy Willerton took part in Miss Asia Pacific in 2011, but left the competition early, labelling it 'a shambles'.

...................................................................................................................................................................

The first Myanmar national to win an international pageant has been stripped of her title for being rude and dishonest, and has allegedly run off with the expensive crown and breast implants.
Her picture was blacked out on the organization's website and replaced with the word "dethroned".
Myanmar, which only recently emerged from a half-century of military rule, started participating in international beauty pageants again in 2012.
Two years later, May Myat Noe was crowned Miss Asia Pacific World.
David Kim, director of media for the Seoul-based pageant, said Friday the 18-year-old was informed of the decision to retract the title earlier this week.
He says she has since absconded with the $100,000 bejeweled tiara and $10,000 breast implants, paid for by the pageant's sponsors.
